COMPLAINING STRATEGIES USED BY THE EFL LEARNERS OF ENGLISH STUDY PROGRAM IN RIAU

چکیده

Complaint commonly appears in daily life interaction (Sukyadi, 2011). People do not only provide words when they speak up but also deliver an action. The way how complain is sometimes different. Hence, the study described this article aimed to investigate types of complaining strategies produced by EFL learners English Study Program at Universitas Riau. research was conducted Pekanbaru. Research design used a descriptive qualitative accompanied statistics. participants involved 36 students selected using cluster random sampling technique. data were collected DCT( Discourse Completion Task) system consisting some situations which requested express their complaints. result showed that mostly direct complaint strategies. Subsequently, based on overall strategies, accusation strategy appeared as employed interactions. It means prefered give and simple question accuse complainant directly. Moreover, about something Indonesian structural context L1, appropriate L2. One condemn or curse defendant’s actions because it claimed harsh accusation.
